About GestaltReview

GestaltReview is an independent, open-access editorial platform dedicated to publishing reflective and educational writing on Gestalt theory, practice, and its historical and contemporary contexts.

The platform presents essays, conceptual reflections, and archival materials that explore Gestalt theory as a phenomenological and experiential approach to understanding human experience. GestaltReview does not provide psychotherapy, training, supervision, or certification, and operates independently of professional associations.

Its purpose is to offer a thoughtful space for reading, reflection, and engagement with the ideas that have shaped Gestalt theory over time.

About Gestalt Theory

Gestalt theory emerged in the mid-20th century as a humanistic and experiential approach to psychotherapy and psychological understanding. Rooted in phenomenology, existential philosophy, and dialogical practice, Gestalt emphasizes awareness, presence, relationship, and the individual’s experience within their field.

Over time, Gestalt theory has influenced psychotherapy, education, organizational practice, and broader discussions of human development. GestaltReview presents writing that explores these foundations through conceptual inquiry rather than instructional or prescriptive guidance.

The History of GestaltReview

GestaltReview originally emerged in the late 1990s as a publication devoted to theoretical and experiential perspectives on Gestalt therapy and Gestalt psychology. Its early volumes featured contributions from practitioners, trainers, and writers engaged in the development of Gestalt theory.

Although the original print publication is no longer in circulation, GestaltReview continues online as an independent archive and editorial resource. The site preserves selected materials from earlier volumes while also publishing new essays and reflective writing for contemporary readers.

The platform’s focus remains on thoughtful engagement with Gestalt theory’s philosophical roots, historical development, and evolving applications.
